  • Cream: Skin application site burning sensation, erythema, pruritus, application site bleeding, discomfort, dryness, inflammation, irritation, paraesthesia, reaction, bullous eruption, dermatitis contact, rash, skin exfoliation, sticky skin. Idiosyncratic liver reaction may occur in some patients
  • Tablet: Nausea, itching, idiosyncratic liver reaction may occur in some patients

Dosage and Administration

  • Shampoo: Apply to affected areas of skin or scalp, leave for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing, varies for different conditions and prophylaxis

Interaction

  • Tablet: Reduced absorption with antimuscarinics, antacids, H2-blockers, PPIs, and sucralfate, reduced plasma concentrations with rifampicin, isoniazid, efavirenz, nevirapine, phenytoin, may reduce efficacy of oral contraceptives, may increase serum levels of CYP3A4 substrates e.g. digoxin, oral anticoagulants, sildenafil, tacrolimus

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Shampoo: Safe for use during pregnancy and lactation as ketoconazole is not absorbed through the skin
  • Cream: Limited data on pregnant or lactating women, animal studies indicated reproductive toxicity but no effects on breastfed newborn/infant anticipated, should be used with caution during pregnancy and lactation
  • Tablet: Category C, not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation

Precautions & Warnings

  • Shampoo: Gradual withdrawal of steroid therapy recommended when using Resolve shampoo alongside prolonged corticosteroid treatment, avoid contact with eyes
  • Cream: Not for ophthalmic use, allow recovery period if potent topical corticosteroid has been used previously
  • Tablet: Monitor liver enzyme levels in patients with previous liver disease, discontinue therapy if symptoms indicative of liver reaction appear

Overdose Effects

  • Shampoo: Not expected as intended for external use only, supportive measures in case of accidental ingestion
