Description
- Indicated for the treatment of oral and gastrointestinal candidiasis
- Eradicates fungal colonization in the mouth and gastrointestinal tract

- Indicated in dermatomycoses such as Tinea pedis, Tinea corporis, Tinea manuum, Tinea cruris, Candidial infections, Tinea versicolor, Infections of the skin, Perianal infections, Stomatitis angularis, Balanoposthitis, Otitis externa
- Has a rapid alleviating effect on pruritus that accompanies infection

Pharmacodynamics
Inhibits demethylation step in ergosterol biosynthesis
Pharmacokinetics
Low oral bioavailability, systemically absorbed, bound to plasma proteins, primarily to serum albumin and red blood cells, undergoes significant metabolism, excreted unchanged in the urine
Dosage
- Infants 4-24 months: 1.25 ml (1/4 measuring spoon) of gel, applied 4 times a day after meals
- Adults and children 2 years of age and older: 2.5 ml (1/2 measuring spoon) of gel, applied 4 times a day after meals
- Infants (4 months of age or above), children, and adults who have difficulty swallowing tablets: dosage based on body weight, in four divided doses, with maximum daily dose not exceeding 250 mg four times daily
- Sufficient Miconazole Cream should be applied to cover affected areas twice daily (morning and evening) for certain conditions
Administration
Applied 2-4 times a day directly to the affected area with a clean finger, kept in contact with the affected area for at least a week after symptoms have disappeared, dental prosthesis should be removed at night and brushed with the gel for oral candidosis
Interaction
- Avoid concomitant treatment with Terfenadine, Astemizole, and Cisapride
- May delay Phenytoin and Cyclosporine metabolism
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to the active ingredient

- Occasional nausea, vomiting, diarrhea with long-term use
- Rare allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
No information on safety during pregnancy, caution advised during nursing
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitoring anti-coagulant effect if used concomitantly
- Monitoring phenytoin plasma level if used concomitantly
- Avoid throat obstruction in infants and young children

May cause vomiting and diarrhea, treatment is symptomatic and supportive
