Description

- Eradication of fungal colonization in the mouth and gastrointestinal tract
- Treatment of super infections due to gram-positive bacteria
- Treatment of dermatomycoses including tinea pedis, tinea corporis, tinea manuum, tinea cruris, candidial infections, tinea versicolor, infections of the skin, perianal infections, stomatitis angularis, balanoposthitis, and otitis externa
Pharmacology
- Pharmacodynamics: Antifungal and antibacterial activity
- Pharmacokinetics: Low oral bioavailability, systemically absorbed, bound to plasma proteins, metabolized, excreted unchanged in urine
Dosage
- Miconazole Oral Gel:
- Oropharyngeal candidosis:
- Infants 4-24 months: 1.25 ml 4 times day after meals
- Adult and children 2 years of age and older: 2.5 ml 4 times a day after meals
- Gastrointestinal tract candidosis: Dosage based on age and body weight, divided doses
- Oropharyngeal candidosis:
- Miconazole Cream:
- Application: Twice daily for tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, and cutaneous candidiasis; once daily for tinea versicolor
Administration
Apply directly to affected area, keep in contact for best results, remove dental prosthesis at night for oral candidosis
Interaction
- Avoid concomitant treatment with Terfenadine, Astemizole, and Cisapride
- May delay Phenytoin and Cyclosporine metabolism
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to the active ingredient

- Diarrhea with long term use

Pregnancy & Lactation
Avoid in pregnant women if possible, caution in nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitor anticoagulant effect if used concomitantly
- Monitor phenytoin plasma level when used concomitantly
- Ensure the gel does not obstruct the throat in infants and young children
Overdose Effects
Accidental overdosage may cause vomiting and diarrhea, treatment is symptomatic and supportive
