Description

• Indicated for acute, uncomplicated infection due to Plasmodium falciparum or mixed infections
• Recommended for malaria infections acquired in areas where parasites may be resistant to other antimalarials
• Recommended for stand by emergency treatment
• Contains fixed ratio of Artemether and Lumefantrine
• Artemether derived from naturally occurring substance Artemisinin
• Lumefantrine is a synthetic racemic fluorine mixture
• Acts in the food vacuoles of malarial parasites
• Interferes with the conversion of haemoglobin breakdown products
• Inhibits nucleic acid and protein synthesis in malarial parasites
• Active against blood stages of Plasmodium vivax, but not hypnozoites
• Should be taken with high-fat food or drinks such as milk
• Repeat dose should be taken in the event of vomiting within 1 hour of administration
• Recommended dosage for adults and children based on body weight
• Highly tolerable with most adverse effects of mild to moderate severity
• Contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity and severe malaria
• Contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy
• Contraindicated in patients with a family history of prolonged QTc interval or sudden death
• Contraindicated in patients with known electrolyte balance disturbances
• Contraindicated in patients taking drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 enzyme
• Not evaluated for prophylaxis or treatment of severe manifestations of severe malaria
• Symptomatic and supportive therapy recommended in cases of suspected overdose
• Monitor ECG and blood potassium level in cases of suspected overdose
• Belongs to the therapeutic class of Anti-malarial drugs
• Storage conditions: Keep below 30°C, away from light and moisture, out of the reach of children
