Indications
- Treatment of onychomycosis of the toenail or fingernail
- Tinea Capitis
- Fungal infection of the skin caused by various fungi
- Tinea infections of the skin
- Pityriasis (tinea) versicolor
- Yeast infections of the skin
Pharmacology
- Inhibition of biosynthesis of Ergosterol
- Fungicidal effects on Tricophyton Mentagrophyte and Trichophyton Rubrum
Dosage & Administration
- 250 mg Terbinafine tablet once daily for 6 weeks for fingernail onychomycosis
- 250 mg Terbinafine tablet once daily for 12 weeks for toenail onychomycosis
- Dosage based on body weight for Terbinafine granules
- Usage duration for Terbinafine cream based on infection type
- Once or twice daily application of Terbinafine 1% Spray
Interaction
- Inhibition of the CYP450 2D6 isozyme
- Potential interaction with tricyclic antidepressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, beta-blockers, and antiarrhythmics
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to terbinafine

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Teratogenicity in pregnant women not well-established
- Presence in breast milk of nursing mothers
- Potential breastfeeding risks
Precautions & Warnings
- Risk of liver failure
- External use only for Anpar cream
- Not recommended for patients with chronic or active liver disease
- Hepatotoxicity may occur in patients with and without pre-existing liver disease
- Assessment of pre-existing liver disease before prescribing
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients
- Efficacy in the elderly similar to younger patients
Overdose Effects
- Limited clinical experience with overdose
- Symptoms of overdose including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness
