Pharmacology
- Artemether is a derivative of naturally occurring substance Artemisinin
- Lumefantrine is a synthetic racemic fluorine mixture belonging to the aryl amino alcohol family
- Both components act in the food vacuoles of malarial parasites, interfering with the conversion of haem to haemozin and inhibiting nucleic acid-protein synthesis within the parasites
Dosage&Administration
- Dosing regimen varies based on body weight, with a standard 3-day treatment schedule for adults and children weighing 35 kg and above
- Patients with acute malaria are recommended to take the dose with high-fat food or drinks such as milk
- Repeat dose should be taken in case of vomiting within 1 hour of administration
