Indications
- Treatment of onychomycosis of the toenail or fingernail
- Treatment of Tinea Capitis
- Treatment of fungal infections of the skin

Pharmacology
Inhibition of biosynthesis of Ergosterol via inhibition of Squalene Epoxidase enzyme
Dosage & Administration
- Terbinafine tablet:
- For toenail onychomycosis: 250 mg (one tablet) once daily for 12 weeks
- For fingernail onychomycosis: 250 mg (one tablet) once daily for 6 weeks
- Terbinafine granules:
- 125 mg/day for body weight <25 kg
- 187.5 mg/day for body weight 25-35 kg
- 250 mg/day for body weight >35 kg for up to 6 weeks
- Terbinafine cream: Applied once or twice daily for various durations depending on the type of infection
- Terbinafine 1% Spray: Applied once or twice daily for various durations depending on the type of infection
Interaction
Inhibitor of the CYP450 2D6 isozyme, requiring careful monitoring and potential dose reduction of drugs metabolized by this isozyme
Contraindications
Contra-indicated in individuals hypersensitive to terbinafine

- Rare cases of liver failure
- Serious skin reaction
- External use only for cream
- Precautions: Not recommended for patients with chronic or active liver disease
Use in Special Populations
- Pediatric use: Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients
- Use in the elderly: No evidence to suggest different dosages or side-effects in elderly patients
Overdose Effects
Clinical experience limited, symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, rash, frequent urination, and headache
