Description
- Prevents growth of bacterias and parasites
- Treats and prevents viral, parasitic, and bacterial infections
- Controls infections in liver, skin, joints, brain, respiratory tract, and vaginal area
- May cause metallic taste, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, and skin rashes
- US FDA Pregnancy Category B
- Requires caution in use during pregnancy and lactation
- Therapeutic class: Amoebicides, Anti-diarrhoeal, Antiprotozoal
- Store below 30°C, protected from light, and out of reach of children
- Commonly used to prevent post-operative infections due to anaerobic bacteria
- Interferes with DNA and gives bactericidal action
- Administration through tablet, suspension, vaginal gel, suppository, and IV infusion
- Multiple dosage regimens for various infections in adults and children
- Interactions with disulfiram, alcohol, oral anticoagulants, lithium, cyclosporin, phenytoin, phenobarbital, 5-fluorouracil, and busulfan
