Mode of Action

  • Metronidazole is a member of the imidazole class of antibacterial drug
  • Classified therapeutically as an antiprotozoal agent
  • The 5-nitro group of Metronidazole is reduced by anaerobes metabolically
  • Interacts with DNA and gives bactericidal action
