Indications
- Prevention of post-operative infections due to anaerobic bacteria
- Treatment of septicaemia, bacteraemia, peritonitis, brain abscess, pelvic abscess
- Treatment of pelvic cellulitis, post-operative wound infections caused by anaerobes
- Urogenital trichomoniasis
- Bacterial vaginosis

- Giardiasis
- Acute ulcerative gingivitis
- Anaerobically infected leg ulcers, pressure sores

Pharmacology
- Member of the imidazole class of antibacterial drug
- Classified therapeutically as an antiprotozoal agent

Dosage & Administration
- Tablet and Suspension for trichomoniasis, intestinal amoebiasis, extra-intestinal & asymptomatic amoebiasis, giardiasis, acute ulcerative gingivitis, bacterial vaginosis, leg ulcers, pressure sores, anaerobic infections, surgical prophylaxis
- Vaginal Gel for intravaginal application
- Suppository for anaerobic infections, surgical prophylaxis
- IV Infusion for adults and children over 12 years, children under 12 years
Interaction
- Disulfiram
- Alcohol
- Oral anticoagulant therapy (warfarin type)
- Lithium
- Cyclosporin
- Phenytoin or phenobarbital
- 5-Fluorouracil
- Busulfan
Contraindications
- Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Metronidazole or other Nitroimidazole derivatives
