Description

  • Indications:
    • Prevention of post-operative infections due to anaerobic bacteria
    • Treatment of septicaemia, bacteraemia, peritonitis, brain abscess, pelvic abscess
    • Treatment of urogenital trichomoniasis
    • Treatment of bacterial vaginosis and amoebiasis
    • Treatment of giardiasis, acute ulcerative gingivitis, anaerobically infected leg ulcers
  • Pharmacology:
    • Imidazole class of antibacterial drug
    • Antiprotozoal agent
    • 5-nitro group interaction with DNA for bactericidal action
  • Dosage & Administration:
    • Multiple dosing regimens for adults and children for trichomoniasis, amoebiasis, giardiasis, gingivitis, bacterial vaginosis, leg ulcers, anaerobic infections
    • Vaginal gel and suppository dosing
    • IV infusion dosing for adults and children
  • Interaction:
    • Interactions with disulfiram, alcohol, oral anticoagulant therapy, lithium, cyclosporin, phenytoin, 5-fluorouracil, busulfan
