Description
- Metrol 400 mg Tablet is an antibiotic medication that prevents the growth of bacteria and parasites. It is used for the treatment and prevention of various viral, parasitic, and bacterial infections, as well as surgical prophylaxis.
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dosages for various infections in adults and children, including trichomoniasis, urogenital trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, amoebiasis, giardiasis, acute ulcerative gingivitis, anaerobically infected leg ulcers and pressure sores, acute dental infections, and antibiotic-associated pseudomembranous colitis. Pharmacology
- Metronidazole is a member of the imidazole class of antibacterial drugs and is classified therapeutically as an antiprotozoal agent. The 5-nitro group of Metronidazole is reduced by anaerobes metabolically, and the reduced form of the drug interacts with DNA, providing bactericidal action.
Indications
- Treatment of post-operative infections due to anaerobic bacteria, septicaemia, bacteraemia, peritonitis, brain abscess, pelvic abscess, pelvic cellulitis, post-operative wound infections caused by anaerobes, urogenital trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, all forms of amoebiasis, giardiasis, acute ulcerative gingivitis, anaerobically infected leg ulcers and pressure sores, acute dental infections, and antibiotic-associated pseudomembranous colitis.
Interaction
- Disulfiram, alcohol, oral anticoagulant therapy, lithium, cyclosporin, phenytoin or phenobarbital, 5-Fluorouracil, busulfan.
