Description

  • Metronidazole is indicated in the treatment of various diseases such as post-operative infections, septicaemia, peritonitis, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, amoebiasis, giardiasis, gingivitis, leg ulcers, pressure sores, acute dental infections, and antibiotic-associated colitis.

Pharmacology

  • Metronidazole is a member of the imidazole class of antibacterial drug having bactericidal action by interacting with DNA

Administration instructions

  • 200 mg - 2 gm doses for trichomoniasis
  • 800 mg doses for amoebiasis
  • 400-800 mg doses for extra-intestinal amoebiasis
  • 2 gm doses for giardiasis
  • 200 mg-2 gm doses for various other infections
