Description
- Secnidal DS is a medication used for the treatment of intestinal amoebiasis, hepatic amoebiasis, trichomoniasis, giardiasis, and other infections caused by parasites. It is a second-generation nitroimidazole with a long half-life, ensuring therapeutic blood levels for 72 hours from a single dose.

Absorption
- Rapid absorption
- Maximum serum level obtained after 3 hours
- Long half-life of 20 hours
- Majority eliminated via urine
Dosage administration
- Administered orally
- 2 gm single dose for adults with amoebiasis
- 30 mg/kg single dose for children with amoebiasis
- 1.50 gm/day for adults with hepatic amoebiasis
- 35-50 mg/kg single dose for children with giardiasis
- Treatment of partner for trichomoniasis
Interaction
- Not recommended with disulfiram
- Close monitoring with warfarin
