Indications
- Prevention of relapse of vivax malaria
Pharmacology
- Antimalarial drug
- Eliminates exoerythrocytic forms of Plasmodium vivax
- Disrupts mitochondria and binds to DNA
Dosage
- Recommended for radical cure of vivax malaria
- Administered concurrently with chloroquine phosphate
- Dosage of 1 tablet (equivalent to 15 mg base) daily for 14 days
Administration
- Should be taken with food
- Take with meals to avoid GI discomfort
Interaction
- Enhanced effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval
Contraindications
- Contraindicated for acutely ill patients with systemic disease
- Concurrent use with potentially haemolytic drugs or depressants of bone marrow elements
- Concomitant admin with mepacrine

Overdose Effects
- Symptoms include abdominal cramps
- Vomiting
- Burning epigastric distress
- CNS and cardiovascular disturbances
- Cardiac arrhythmia
- QT interval prolongation
- Cyanosis
- Methemoglobinemia
- Moderate leukocytosis or leukopenia
- Anemia
- Granulocytopenia and acute hemolytic anemia in G6PD deficient patients
