Indications
- Threadworms treatment

Pharmacology
- Synthetic broad-spectrum anthelmintic
- Active against most nematodes
- Inhibits formation of worms' microtubules
- Causes worms' glucose depletion
- 2-10% oral absorption from GI tract
- Peak plasma concentration within 30 minutes to 7 hours
- Highly bound to plasma protein
- Elimination half-life of 2.8 to 9 hours
Dosage & Administration
- 100 mg or 1 teaspoonful for Threadworms (single dose)
- 100 mg or 1 teaspoonful for Whipworms, Roundworms, Hookworms (twice daily for 3 days)
- Second dose may be needed after 2 weeks if reinfection occurs
Interaction
- Potential interaction with cimetidine
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Mebendazole
Side Effects
- Transient symptoms of abdominal pain and diarrhea
- Rash, urticaria, and angioedema
- Rare cases of convulsions
- Neutropenia and agranulocytosis
