Indications

  • Prophylaxis against arterial occlusive events (e.g. myocardial infarction, acute ischaemic stroke/TIA)
  • Mild to moderate pain relief (e.g. headache, muscle pain)
  • Chronic disease accompanied by pain and inflammation (e.g. osteoarthritis)
  • Antipyretic (e.g. cold fever and influenza)

Pharmacology

It inhibits thrombus formation, has anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties, and reduces intestinal disturbance and gastrointestinal ulceration.

Dosage & Administration

  • 300 mg for pain and inflammatory diseases
  • 150 mg-300 mg for suspected acute coronary syndrome
  • 150 mg daily after myocardial infarction
  • 150 mg-300 mg daily for acute ischaemic stroke/TIA
  • 75 mg-300 mg daily following bypass surgery

Interaction

May enhance the effect of anticoagulants, inhibit the uricosuric effect of probenecid, and increase the toxicity of sulphonamides.

Contraindications

  • Children below 12 years
  • Breastfeeding
  • Active peptic ulcer
  • Bleeding due to haemophilia
  • Intracranial haemorrhage

Pregnancy & Lactation

Avoid use during the last 3 months of pregnancy and in breastfeeding mothers.
