Indications

  • Prophylaxis against arterial occlusive events
  • Mild to moderate pain
  • Chronic disease accompanied by pain and inflammation
  • Antipyretic

Pharmacology

  • Decreases platelet aggregation
  • Inhibits thrombus formation
  • Has analgesic properties
  • Has anti-inflammatory properties
  • Has antipyretic properties
  • Reduces intestinal disturbance and gastrointestinal ulceration

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended dosage for pain, inflammatory diseases, and as antipyretic
  • Recommended dosage for suspected acute coronary syndrome
  • Recommended dosage after myocardial infarction
  • Recommended dosage for acute ischaemic stroke/Transient ischaemic stroke (TIA)
  • Recommended dosage following bypass surgery

Interaction

  • Enhances the effect of anticoagulants
  • Enhances the effect of oral hypoglycaemic agents
  • Enhances the effect of phenytoin and sodium valproate
  • Inhibits the uricosuric effect of probenecid
  • May increase the toxicity of sulphonamides
  • May precipitate bronchospasm
  • May induce attacks of asthma

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in children less than 12 years
  • Contraindicated in breast-feeding
  • Contraindicated in active peptic ulcer
  • Contraindicated in bleeding due to haemophilia
  • Contraindicated in intracranial haemorrhage
  • Contraindicated in other ulceration

  • Mild nausea
  • Dyspepsia
  • Gastrointestinal ulceration
  • Bronchospasm

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Avoid use during the last 3 months of pregnancy
  • May cause problems in the unborn child
  • May cause complications during delivery
  • Penetrates into breast milk
  • Should be administered with caution to lactating mothers
