Description
Ace 120 mg/5 ml Suspension is a medication indicated for fever, common cold and influenza, headache, toothache, bodyache, and more. It has analgesic, antipyretic properties with weak anti-inflammatory activity.
Dosage
The dosage varies for adults, children, and infants depending on the form of the medication (tablet, extended release tablet, syrup/suspension, suppository, pediatric drop).
Pharmacology
Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) acts in the CNS, increasing the pain threshold by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes involved in prostaglandin synthesis. It has analgesic and antipyretic properties with weak anti-inflammatory activity.
Interaction
Patients who have taken barbiturates, tricyclic antidepressants, and alcohol may have diminished ability to metabolize large doses of Ace, increasing hepatotoxicity. Chronic ingestion of anticonvulsants or oral steroid contraceptives may prevent attainment of therapeutic Ace levels.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to Paracetamol.
Side Effects
Mild side effects are common, while haematological reactions, pancreatitis, skin rashes, and allergic reactions occur occasionally.
Pregnancy & Lactation
No ill effects in human pregnancy have been shown due to Paracetamol used in recommended dosage. It is excreted in breast milk, but not in a clinically significant amount.
Precautions & Warnings
Care is advised in administration to patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment. The hazard of overdose is greater in those with non-cirrhotic alcoholic liver disease.
Overdose Effects
Liver damage is possible in adults who have taken 10 g or more of Ace. Symptoms of overdose include pallor, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and liver damage, with potential for encephalopathy, haemorrhage, and acute renal failure.
Therapeutic Class
Non opioid analgesics
Storage Conditions
Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
