Description
- Renova is indicated for fever, common cold and influenza, headache, toothache, earache, bodyache, myalgia, neuralgia, dysmenorrhoea, sprains, colic pain, back pain, post-operative pain, postpartum pain, inflammatory pain, and post-vaccination pain in children. It is also indicated for rheumatic & osteoarthritic pain and stiffness of joints. Paracetamol has analgesic and antipyretic properties with weak anti-inflammatory activity.
Indications
- Fever relief
- Common cold and influenza relief
- Pain relief for headache, toothache, earache, bodyache, myalgia, neuralgia, dysmenorrhoea, sprains, colic pain, back pain, post-operative pain, postpartum pain, inflammatory pain, and post-vaccination pain in children
- Relief from rheumatic & osteoarthritic pain and stiffness of joints
Mode of Action
- Acts in the CNS
- Increases pain threshold
- Inhibits isoforms of cyclooxygenase (COX-1, COX-2, COX-3) enzymes involved in prostaglandin (PG) synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet dosing for adults and children
- Extended-release tablet dosing for adults & children over 12 years
- Syrup/Suspension dosing for children under 3 months to adults
- Suppository dosing for children and adults
- Paediatric drop dosing for children
- Paracetamol tablet with Actizorb technology dosing for adults and children (aged 12 years and over)
Interaction
- Diminished ability to metabolize large doses with barbiturates, tricyclic antidepressants, and alcohol
- Increased hepatotoxicity with alcohol consumption
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Paracetamol
Side Effects
- Mild side effects
- Haematological reactions including thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, pancytopenia, neutropenia, and agranulocytosis
- Pancreatitis, skin rashes, and other allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Epidemiological studies in human pregnancy showing no ill effects due to Paracetamol in recommended dosage
- Excretion in breast milk in not a clinically significant amount
Precautions & Warnings
- Advised in severe renal or severe hepatic impairment
- Hazard of overdose is greater in non-cirrhotic alcoholic liver disease
- Not to be used concurrently with other Renova-containing products
- Use only when clearly necessary
