Description

Paracetamol & Caffeine Tablets is a combination medication used to relieve pain and reduce fever. It is indicated for conditions such as headache, migraine, toothache, neuralgia, feverishness, period pain, sore throat, backache, and aches and pains of colds and flu. The tablets contain paracetamol with analgesic and antipyretic properties alongside caffeine which can raise vessel tone in the brain and increase pain tolerance. It should be used cautiously in patients with hepatic or renal failure, and prolonged use without consulting a physician should be avoided.

Pharmacology

  • Combination of Paracetamol and Caffeine
  • Analgesic and antipyretic properties
  • Weak anti-inflammatory activity
  • Caffeine increases solubility and transmembrane permeation of Paracetamol
  • Increases pain threshold and tolerance
  • Raises vessel tone in the brain

Dosage & Administration

  • Adult dose: 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours. Maximum dose: 8 tablets daily.
  • Child dose: Not recommended for children below 12 years

Interaction

  • May reduce serum levels with anticonvulsants
  • May enhance anticoagulant effect of warfarin
  • Accelerated absorption with metoclopramide and domperidone
  • May increase serum levels with probenecid
  • May reduce absorption with colestyramine
  • May cause severe hypothermia with phenothiazine

Contraindications

  • Severe renal function impairment
  • Hepatic disease (Viral Hepatitis)
  • Known hypersensitivity to paracetamol or caffeine

  • Haematological reactions including thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, pancytopenia, neutropenia, and agranulocytosis
  • Pancreatitis
  • Skin rashes
  • Other allergic reactions

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy: Consult with doctors before taking
  • Lactation: Can be taken whilst breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings

  • Given cautiously in patients with hepatic or renal failure
  • Avoid prolonged use without consulting a physician
