Pharmacology

Combination of Paracetamol and Caffeine with analgesic, antipyretic, weak anti-inflammatory properties and increased pain threshold and tolerance of pain.

Dosage & Administration

Adult dose: 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours. Maximum dose: 8 tablets daily
Child dose: Not recommended for children below 12 years

Interaction

May reduce serum levels with anticonvulsants, enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, accelerate absorption with metoclopramide, increase serum levels with probenecid, increase serum levels of chloramphenicol, reduce absorption with colestyramine, and cause severe hypothermia with phenothiazine.

Contraindications

Severe renal function impairment, hepatic disease (Viral Hepatitis), known hypersensitivity to paracetamol or caffeine.

Side Effects

Mild side effects include haematological reactions, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, pancytopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis, pancreatitis, skin rashes, and other allergic reactions.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Consultation required for pregnant mothers. Can be taken while breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

Use cautiously in patients with hepatic or renal failure, in patients taking other hepatotoxic medication. Prolonged use without consulting a physician should be avoided.

Overdose Effects

Symptoms of Paracetamol overdose include pallor, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, abdominal pain, liver damage apparent 12 to 40 hours after ingestion, and abnormalities of glucose metabolism and metabolic acidosis.
