Pharmacology
Combination of Paracetamol and Caffeine with analgesic, antipyretic, weak anti-inflammatory properties, and increased pain threshold and tolerance of pain
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours. Maximum dose: 8 tablets daily.
- Child dose: Not recommended for children below 12 years.
Interaction
May have interactions with anticonvulsants, anticoagulants, metoclopramide, domperidone, probenecid, chloramphenicol, colestyramine, and phenothiazine
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with severe renal function impairment, hepatic disease (Viral Hepatitis), and known hypersensitivity to paracetamol or caffeine
Side Effects
Mild side effects with occurrences of haematological reactions, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, pancytopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis, pancreatitis, skin rashes, and other allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
Consultation required for pregnant mothers. Safe to take while breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
Cautiously used in patients with hepatic or renal failure, those taking other hepatotoxic medication. Prolonged use without consulting a physician should be avoided
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose include pallor, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, abdominal pain, liver damage, abnormalities of glucose metabolism, and metabolic acidosis
