Pharmacology
Combination of Paracetamol and Caffeine with analgesic, antipyretic, and weak anti-inflammatory properties. Caffeine increases solubility and transmembrane permeation of Paracetamol, raises vessel tone in the brain, and increases pain threshold and tolerance.
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours, Maximum dose: 8 tablets daily
- Child dose: Not recommended for children below 12 years
Interaction
May interact with anticonvulsants, warfarin, metoclopramide, domperidone, probenecid, chloramphenicol, phenothiazine, colestyramine
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with severe renal function impairment, hepatic disease, and known hypersensitivity to Paracetamol or Caffeine
Side Effects
Mild side effects include haematological reactions, pancreatitis, skin rashes, and allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
Consult with doctors during pregnancy, safe for breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
Use cautiously in hepatic or renal failure, with other hepatotoxic medication, and avoid prolonged use without consulting a physician
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose include pallor, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, abdominal pain, liver damage, abnormalities of glucose metabolism, and metabolic acidosis
