Pharmacology
Combination of Paracetamol and Caffeine. Paracetamol has analgesic and antipyretic properties with weak anti-inflammatory activity. Caffeine increases the solubility and transmembrane permeation of Paracetamol. It also increases the pain threshold and tolerance of pain. Caffeine raises vessel tone in the brain, providing benefits for migraines and headaches.
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours. Maximum dose: 8 tablets daily.
- Child dose: Not recommended for children below 12 years.
Interaction
May have interactions with anticonvulsants, anticoagulants, metoclopramide, domperidone, probenecid, chloramphenicol, and colestyramine.
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with severe renal function impairment, hepatic disease, and known hypersensitivity to paracetamol or caffeine.
Side Effects
Side effects may include haematological reactions, pancreatitis, skin rashes, and allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnant mothers should consult with doctors before taking Paracetamol & Caffeine. It can be taken while breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Administer cautiously in patients with hepatic or renal failure, and in those taking other hepatotoxic medication. Prolonged use without consulting a physician should be avoided.
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of Paracetamol overdose in the first 24 hours may include pallor, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, and abdominal pain. Liver damage may become apparent 12 to 40 hours after ingestion. Abnormalities of glucose metabolism and metabolic acidosis may occur.
