Pharmacology
Combination of Paracetamol and Caffeine. Paracetamol has analgesic and antipyretic properties with weak anti-inflammatory activity. Caffeine is a theophylline-like xanthine derivative, increases solubility and transmembrane permeation of Paracetamol, raises vessel tone in the brain.
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours, Maximum dose: 8 tablets daily
- Child dose: Not recommended for children below 12 years
Interaction
May reduce serum levels with anticonvulsants, enhance anticoagulant effect of warfarin, accelerate absorption with metoclopramide, increase serum levels with probenecid, increase serum levels of chloramphenicol, reduce absorption with colestyramine, cause severe hypothermia with phenothiazine.
Contraindications
Severe renal function impairment, hepatic disease, known hypersensitivity to paracetamol or caffeine.
Side Effects
Mild side effects, haematological reactions, pancreatitis, skin rashes, allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnant mothers should consult doctors, can be taken while breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Given cautiously in hepatic or renal failure, with other hepatotoxic medication, prolonged use without consulting a physician.
Overdose Effects
Pallor, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, abdominal pain, liver damage, abnormalities of glucose metabolism, metabolic acidosis.
