Indications
- Moderate to severe painful conditions
- Postoperative pain
- Colic and spastic pain
- Cancer pain
- Joint pain
- Neck and back pain
- Pain associated with osteoporosis
Pharmacology
- Centrally acting synthetic analgesic compound
- Inhibits reuptake of neurotransmitters - serotonin and noradrenaline
- Modifies transmission of pain impulses
- Activates descending serotonergic pathways
- Activates noradrenergic pathways involved in analgesia
Dosage & Administration
- Usual doses of 50 to 100 mg every four to six hours
- Initial dose of 100 mg for acute pain
- Capsule, tablet, sustained release capsule, injection, suppository administration
- Total daily dosage by mouth should not exceed 400 mg
Interaction
- No major drug interactions
- Monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors not recommended for combination
- Concomitant administration of carbamazepine requires dose adjustment
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug
- Acute intoxication with alcohol, hypnotics, centrally acting analgesics, opioids or psychotropic drugs

Precautions & Warnings
- Respiratory depression risk
- Not recommended for opioid-dependent patients
- Caution with concomitant CNS depressants
- Caution with concomitant MAO inhibitors
- Caution in patients with increased intracranial pressure or head injury
- Caution in patients with acute abdominal conditions
Use in Special Populations
- Children (age 1 year and above) administration
- Suppository not recommended for children below 14 years
- Safety and efficacy not established for Syndol 100 mg SR Capsules in children
