- Xtrapel SR is used for the treatment of moderate to severe painful conditions.
- Tramadol is a centrally acting synthetic analgesic compound.
Indications
- Treatment of moderate to severe painful conditions
- Postoperative pain
- Colic and spastic pain
- Cancer pain
- Joint pain
- Neck and back pain
- Pain associated with osteoporosis
Pharmacology
- Centrally acting synthetic analgesic
- Inhibition of neurotransmitter reuptake
- Modifies pain impulse transmission
- Stimulation of mu-opioid receptors
- Modulation of central monoaminergic inhibitory pathways
Dosage and administration
- Usual dose: 50 to 100 mg every 4 to 6 hours
- Initial dose for acute pain: 100 mg
- Initial dose for chronic pain: 50 mg
- Total daily dosage should not exceed 400 mg
- Sustained release capsule: one capsule every 12 hours
- Injection dosage: 50-100 mg every 4 to 6 hours
- Suppository dosage: 100 mg every 6 hours
Interactions
- Contraindicated with MAO inhibitors
- Increased metabolism with concomitant carbamazepine

Precautions and warnings
- Respiratory depression risk
- Not recommended for opioid-dependent patients
- Caution with CNS depressants
- Caution with MAO inhibitors
- Caution in patients with increased intracranial pressure or head injury
- Caution in patients with acute abdominal conditions
Use in special populations
- Children from 1 year can be given 1-2 mg/kg body weight
- Avoid suppository in children and adolescents below the age of 14 years
- 100 mg SR Capsules not studied in children
