Indications
- Acute treatment of migraines with or without aura in adults
Pharmacology
- Therapeutic activity due to the agonist effects at the 5-HT1B/1D receptors
- Results in cranial vessel constriction and inhibition of pro-inflammatory neuropeptide release
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended starting dose of 2.5 mg tablet
- Maximum recommended single dose of 5 mg
- Maximum daily dose of 10 mg in any 24-hour period
- Nasal spray administration for acute migraine treatment
- Ability to administer a second dose if migraine has not resolved
Contraindications
- Ischemic coronary artery disease
- History of stroke
- Concurrent or recent use of a monoamine oxidase inhibitor
- Known hypersensitivity to Zolmitriptan
