Description
- Tricyclic compound
- Antagonizes serotonin receptor
- Antihistamine properties
- Antibradykinin properties
- Weak anticholinergic properties

Pharmacology
- Inhibits peripheral actions of serotonin and histamine
- Alters pain thresholds in migraines
- Blocks 5-HT receptors
- Attenuates signaling of serotonin in cranial vasoconstriction
- Inhibits actions of bradykinin
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: usually 1.5 mg daily
- May be taken as a single dose at night or in three divided doses
- Maximum dosage of 4.5 mg daily
- Children dosage: up to 1.5 mg daily
- May be given as a divided dose or as a single dose at night
Interaction
- Enhances central effects of sedatives, hypnotics, antihistamines, and alcohol
- Antagonizes the hypotensive effect of adrenergic neurone blockers
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients
