- Beta1 selective (cardioselective) beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist

- Initial dose of 50mg for hypertension
- Initial dose of 50mg for angina pectoris
- Initial intravenous dose in acute myocardial infarction
Interaction
- Additive effect with catecholamine-depleting drugs
- Additive effect with calcium channel blockers
- Potential interaction with disopyramide
- Potential interaction with amiodarone
- Exacerbation of rebound hypertension with clonidine
- Decrease in hypotensive effects with prostaglandin synthase inhibiting drugs
- Increased severity of anaphylactic reactions
- Increased risk of bradycardia with digitalis glycosides
Contraindications
- Sinus bradycardia
- Cardiogenic shock
- Overt cardiac failure
- Hypersensitivity to atenolol or its components
