Indications
- Relief of osteoarthritis symptoms

Pharmacology
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug

- Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis

- Metabolic transformation in the liver
- Plasma protein binding of about 99%
- Maximum plasma levels reached in 2 hours after oral administration
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage adjusted to seriousness of syndrome and patient complaints
- Recommended dosage: 600-900 mg per day, at 2-3 divided doses
- Temporary raise of dosage up to 1200 mg per day for acute disorders
- Maximum daily dose is 1200 mg
- Dosage for dysmenorrhea: 600-900 mg per day
Interaction
- Interacts with anticoagulant, hydantoine, sulfonamide, ticlopidine, lithium, other NSAID's, ACE inhibitors, beta blockers, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, corticosteroids, digoxin, methotrexate, pentoxyfiline, phenytoine, probenecid, sulfinpyrazon, sulfonylurea, thiazide and thiazide type diuretics, zidovudine
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to dexibuprofen or NSAIDs
- Contraindicated in patients with active or suspected hemorrhage, serious heart diseases, kidney function impairment, and liver function impairment
Side Effects
- Common side-effects: dyspepsia, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, hypersensitivity reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid use during pregnancy
- Use with caution in nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with bronchial asthma or chronic pulmonary diseases
- Caution in patients with hepatic, renal, or cardiac insufficiency and hypertension
- Extreme caution in hemorrhagic conditions and allergic patients
Use in Special Populations
- Caution in patients with hepatic and renal impairment
- Specific dosage considerations for children and elderly people
Overdose Effects
- Low acute toxicities
- Symptoms occur at doses between 80 and 100 mg/kg body weight
- Mild to serious symptoms, including abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, lethargy, hypotension, coma
- No specific antidote, treatment must be symptomatic
