Indications
- Relief of osteoarthritis symptoms

Pharmacology
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Analgesic action
- Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis
- Absorbed primarily from the small intestine
- Metabolic transformation in the liver
- Excreted mainly by the kidneys
- Plasma protein binding is about 99%
- Maximum plasma levels reached about 2 hours after oral administration
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage adjusted to seriousness of syndrome and patient's complaints
- Recommended dosage: 600-900 mg Dexibuprofen per day
- Maximum daily dose: 1200 mg
- Temporary dosage raise up to 1200 mg for acute disorders
- Dysmenorrhea dosage: 600-900 mg per day
Interaction
- Interacts with anticoagulant, hydantoine, and sulfonamide
- Interaction with ticlopidine, lithium, other NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors
- Also interacts with beta blockers, cyclosporine, corticosteroids, and more
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Dexibuprofen or other NSAIDs
- Not for patients with active or suspected hemorrhage or serious heart diseases
- Contraindicated for kidney function impairment (GFR <30ml/min) and liver function impairment
Side Effects
- Common side-effects include dyspepsia, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
- Hypersensitivity reactions - bleeding, ulcer
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid use during pregnancy due to impact on fetal cardiovascular system
- Use with caution in nursing mothers due to small to negligible presence in mother's milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with caution in patients with bronchial asthma or chronic pulmonary diseases
- Caution in patients with hepatic, renal, or cardiac insufficiency and hypertension
- Use with extreme caution in active and suspected hemorrhagic conditions
Use in Special Populations
- Patients with mild to moderate liver impairment should start with low amounts
- Start amount must be reduced for patients with mild to moderate kidney impairment
- Not licensed for use in children under 18 years in some countries
- Lowest effective dose recommended for elderly people
Overdose Effects
- Low acute toxicities
- Symptoms occur at doses between 80 and 100 mg/kg body weight
- Mild to serious symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, lethargy, hypotension, coma
- Activated charcoal should be administered in case of large quantities
- Dialysis and hemodialysis of little value as Inflam-D binds strongly to plasma protein
