Indications
- Relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoidal disorders such as osseous rheumatism, ankylosing spondilitis, juvenile arthritis, muscular rheumatism, degenerative joint diseases
- Acute symptomatic treatment of painful menstruation (primary dysmenorrhoea)
- Common headache and fever
- Symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain
- Adjuvant with common cold and influenza associated with headache
Pharmacology
- Dexibuprofen's action as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug
- Analgesic action by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis
- Absorption from the small intestine
- Metabolic transformation in the liver
- Plasma protein binding of about 99%
- Maximum plasma levels reached about 2 hours after oral administration
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dosage of 600-900 mg Dexibuprofen per day
- Dosage adjustment to the seriousness of the syndrome and patient complaints
- Temporary raise of dosage to 1200 mg Dexibuprofen per day for acute disorders
- Maximum daily dose of 1200 mg
- Lower dosage for dysmenorrhea
Interaction
- Simultaneous use with anticoagulant, hydantoine, sulfonamide, ticlopidine, lithium, other NSAID's, ACE inhibitors, beta blockers, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, corticosteroids, digoxin, methotrexate, pentoxyfiline, phenytoine, probenecid, sulfinpyrazon, sulfonylurea, thiazide, and thiazide type diuretics, and zidovudine
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Dexibuprofen or another NSAID
- History of asthma, bronchospasm, acute rhinitis, urticaria, or edema after use of similar drugs
- Active or suspected hemorrhage
- Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis
- Serious heart diseases
- Kidney function impairment (GFR <30ml/min)
- Liver function impairment

- Use with caution in patients with hepatic, renal, or cardiac insufficiency
- Consultation with a doctor for patients with systemic lupus or other autoimmunological disease
- Use with extreme caution in patients with active and suspected hemorrhagic conditions

Overdose Effects
- Toxicity symptoms at doses between 80 and 100 mg/kg body weight
- Mild to serious symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, lethargy, headache, tinnitus, ataxia, flatulence, hypotension, hypothermia, metabolic acidosis, reduced kidney function, coma, apnoea
- Symptomatic treatment with no specific antidote
- Administration of activated charcoal for large quantities ingested
- Limited value of dialysis and hemodialysis
