Description
- Potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug
- Pronounced anti-rheumatic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic properties
- Uricosuric effect
- Rapid and complete absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
- Metabolized in the liver
- Compatible with oral antidiabetic agents
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any ingredient
- Generally well tolerated with mild, rare, and transient adverse effects
- Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
- Storage below 30°C, protected from light
Dosage & Administration
- Diclofenac FC Tablet: 75-150 mg daily in 2 to 3 divided doses for adults
- Diclofenac SR Tablet: 1 tablet daily for adults, 1-3 mg/kg body weight for children
- Diclofenac Dispersible Tablet: 2-3 tablets daily for adults, 1-3 mg/kg body weight for children
- Diclofenac TR Capsule: One capsule daily
- Diclofenac Suppository: 50 mg 2-3 times daily for adults
- Diclofenac injection: 1-2 ampoules daily for adults
- Diclofenac Gel: 2-4 g applied 3-4 times daily for external use
Indications
- Rheumatology: Inflammatory and degenerative forms of rheumatism, polyarthritis, osteoarthritis
- Surgery and Traumatology: Sprain, bruises, dislocations, fractures, soft tissue injuries
- Obstetrics and Gynecology: Various conditions including dysmenorrhoea and adnexitis
- Otorhinolaryngology: Pre-operative medication for prevention of pain, inflammation, and swelling
- Dentistry: Post-operative and post-traumatic pain, inflammation, and swelling
- Urogenital tract, renal and biliary colic: Prevention of pain and treatment of inflammation and swelling
Interaction
- Potential interactions with lithium, digoxin, anticoagulants, antidiabetic agents, cyclosporin, methotrexate, quinolone antimicrobials, other NSAIDs, and steroids
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
- Peptic ulcer
- Asthmatic patients with specific sensitivities
- Not to be used under occlusive airtight dressings
Side Effects
- Mild, rare, and transient adverse effects
- Epigastric pain, eructation, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, peripheral edema, skin reactions
- Local irritation, reddening of the skin, skin rash
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use only for compelling reasons during pregnancy
- Lowest effective dose should be used
- Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
- Not recommended during lactation due to potential presence in breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Close observation in rare instances of peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Caution to avoid contact with eyes or mucus membranes
- Avoid ingestion
