Interaction
- Potential drug interactions with lithium, digoxin, anticoagulants, antidiabetic agents, cyclosporin, methotrexate, quinolone antimicrobials, other NSAIDs, steroids
- Isolated reports of increased risk of haemorrhage with combined use of diclofenac and anticoagulant therapy
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
- Peptic ulcer
- Hypersensitivity to Diclofenac or other NSAIDs
- Contra-indicated in certain asthmatic patients
Side Effects
- Mild, rare, and transient adverse effects
- Possible initial side effects: epigastric pain, eructation, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache
- Peripheral edema
- Skin reactions such as rash and eczema
- Local irritation and reddening of the skin from Gel
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use only for compelling reasons during pregnancy
- Lowest effective dose should be used during pregnancy
- Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
- Not recommended during pregnancy for Diclofenac Sodium Gel
- Insignificant quantity detected in breast milk with no expected undesirable effects on the infant
Precautions & Warnings
- Close observation for peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Care to avoid contact with eyes or mucus membranes
- Hand washing after Gel application
- Avoid oral ingestion
