Pharmacology
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
Dosage & Administration
- 75-150 mg daily for adults
- 1-3 mg of diclofenac/kg body wt. daily for children
- Dose reduction for long term use
- Elderly patients: lowest effective dosage recommended
- Maximum daily dose of 150 mg
- External use: 2-4 g of Diclofenac gel applied 3-4 times daily
Interaction
- Potential interactions with lithium and digoxin
- Isolated reports of increased risk of hemorrhage with anticoagulant therapy
- Compatible with oral antidiabetic agents
- Cases of nephrotoxicity with cyclosporin
- Caution with concomitant use of methotrexate and NSAIDs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
- Peptic ulcer
- Asthma related contraindications
- Not for use under occlusive airtight dressings

- Local irritation and reddening of the skin
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use during pregnancy only for compelling reasons
- Lowest effective dose to be used
- Not recommended during first trimester
- Insignificant quantity in breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Close observation for peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Avoid contact with eyes or mucus membranes
- Not for oral consumption
