Description
- A potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with pronounced anti-rheumatic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties. Effective for managing various indications including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, peri-articular rheumatic disorders, sprains, bruises, dislocations, fractures, soft tissue injuries, primary dysmenorrhoea, post-operative pain, inflammation, and swelling, and more.

Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 75-150 mg daily in 2 to 3 divided doses, preferably after food.
- Dose should be reduced in long term use.
- Children: 1-3 mg of diclofenac/kg body weight daily in divided doses.
- Elderly patients: In elderly or debilitated patients, the lowest effective dosage is recommended.
Pharmacology
- Rapid and complete absorption from the gastrointestinal tract.
- Peak plasma concentrations reached within an average of 2 hours after ingestion.
- 99.7% bound to plasma proteins.
- Metabolized in the liver and undergoes first-pass metabolism.
Drug Interactions
- Lithium and digoxin: may increase plasma concentrations.
- Anticoagulants: isolated reports of increased risk of hemorrhage.
- Antidiabetic agents: can be given together without influencing clinical effect.
- Cyclosporin: cases of nephrotoxicity reported when given concomitantly.
- Methotrexate: serious toxicity reported when given within 24 hours of NSAIDs.
- Quinolone antimicrobials: caution should be exercised when considering concomitant therapy.
- Other NSAIDs and steroids: co-administration may increase frequency of unwanted effects.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the product.
- Peptic ulcer.
- Hypersensitivity to Diclofenac or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents.
- Not to be used under occlusive airtight dressings.
Side Effects
- Mild, rare, and transient adverse effects such as epigastric pain, eructation, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache.
- Peripheral edema, skin reactions (rash, eczema), local irritation, reddening of the skin, skin rash.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Employed only for compelling reasons during pregnancy.
- Lowest effective dose should be used.
- Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy.
- Not recommended during lactation due to insignificant quantity detected in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings
- Rare instances of peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding.
- Close observation for patients with advanced age.
- Avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes.
- Hands should be washed properly after application.
- Not to be taken by mouth.
