Description

Dosage and Administration
- Adult dosage: 75-150 mg daily

Indications
- Rheumatology: inflammatory and degenerative forms of rheumatism, polyarthritis, osteoarthritis, gout

Pharmacology
- Potent NSAID with anti-rheumatic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties
- Inhibits prostaglandin biosynthesis causing inflammation, pain, and fever
- Rapid and complete absorption from the gastrointestinal tract
- Metabolized in the liver
Interaction
- Potential drug interactions with lithium, digoxin, anticoagulants, antidiabetic agents, cyclosporin, methotrexate, quinolone antimicrobials, other NSAIDs, and steroids
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient
- Peptic ulcer
- Hypersensitivity to diclofenac or other NSAIDs
- Asthmatic patients with sensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid or prostaglandin synthetase inhibitors
- Do not use under occlusive airtight dressings
Side Effects
- Mild, rare, and transient adverse effects
- Possible initial complaints of epigastric pain, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, headache
- Peripheral edema, skin reactions, local skin irritation
Pregnancy and Lactation
- Use only for compelling reasons during pregnancy
- Lowest effective dose should be used
- Not recommended during the first trimester
- Insignificant quantity may be detected in breast milk
Precautions and Warnings
- Monitor for peptic ulceration and gastrointestinal bleeding
- Close observation in elderly patients
- Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes
