Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 75-150 mg daily in 2 to 3 divided doses
- Preferably after food
- Reduction of dose in long term use
- Diclofenac SR Tablet: 1 tablet daily for adults
- Children: 1-3 mg of diclofenac/kg body weight daily
- Elderly patients: Lowest effective dosage is recommended
- Diclofenac Dispersible Tablet: Recommended daily dosage is 2-3 tablets
- Maximum daily dose for adults: 150 mg
- Diclofenac TR Capsule: One capsule daily
- Diclofenac Suppository: 50 mg suppository 2-3 times daily
- Maximum daily dose: 150 mg
- Diclofenac injection: Usual dose is 1 ampoule daily
- Diclofenac Gel: Applied to the skin 3-4 times daily for external use
Interaction
- May increase plasma concentrations of lithium and digoxin
- Isolated reports of an increased risk of hemorrhage with combined use of diclofenac and anticoagulant therapy
- Can be given together with oral antidiabetic agents without influencing their clinical effect
- Cases of nephrotoxicity reported in patients receiving cyclosporin and diclofenac concomitantly
- Serious toxicity reported when methotrexate and NSAIDs are given within 24 hours of each other
- Convulsions may occur due to an interaction between quinolones and NSAIDs
- Co-administration of diclofenac with other systemic NSAIDs and steroids may increase unwanted effects
- Plasma levels of each is lowered with aspirin, although no clinical significance is known
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the product
- Peptic ulcer
- Hypersensitivity to Diclofenac like other non-steroid anti-inflammatory agents
- Contra-indicated in asthmatic patients in whom attack with asthma, urticaria or acute rhinitis are precipitated by acetylsalicylic acid or by other drugs with prostaglandin synthetase inhibitor
- Not to be used under occlusive airtight dressings

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Employed only for compelling reasons during pregnancy
- Lowest effective dose should be used
- Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
- Not recommended during pregnancy due to insufficient clinical data
- Insignificant quantity detected in breast milk with no undesirable effects on the infant
Precautions & Warnings
- Close observation for peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Close observation for patients with advanced age
- Avoid contact with the eyes or mucus membranes for Diclofenac Gel
- Hands should be washed properly after application
- Not to be taken by mouth
