Indications

Pharmacology
- Potent nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Marked analgesic and antipyretic properties
- Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis

Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage by intramuscular injection
- Specific dosage for renal colic
- Children's dosage for juvenile chronic arthritis
- Recommended dosage for elderly patients
Interactions
- Increased plasma concentrations of Lithium and Digoxin
- Possible risk of haemorrhage with anticoagulant therapy
- Compatibility with oral antidiabetic agents
- Potential nephrotoxicity when used with Cyclosporin
- Caution with concomitant use of quinolone antimicrobials and NSAIDs
- Possible increase in unwanted effects when co-administered with other NSAIDs and steroids
- Inhibition of diuretics activity and potential impact on serum potassium levels
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Diclofenac
- Active or suspected peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Hypersensitivity to local anaesthetics of the amide type
- Adams-Stokes syndrome or severe heart block
- Hypersensitivity to excipients in the formulation
Side Effects
- Mild and transient gastrointestinal discomfort
- Nausea and diarrhea
- Bleeding
- Injection site disorder
- Rare instances of abscesses and local necrosis
- CNS reactions such as drowsiness and dizziness
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy unless compelling reasons exist
- Use the lowest effective dosage if required during pregnancy
- Avoid use during the last trimester of pregnancy
- Small quantities may be detected in breast milk with no expected undesirable effects on the infant
Precautions & Warnings
- Close observation for patients with severe hepatic, cardiac, or renal insufficiency
- Monitor renal function for patients using NSAIDs
- Discontinue if abnormal liver function tests appear
- Long-term monitoring for patients on NSAIDs
- Close observation for hepatic, cardiac, and renal function
