Pharmacology
Potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with anti-rheumatic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, and uricosuric properties. Inhibits prostaglandin biosynthesis, rapidly and completely absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract, 99.7% bound to plasma proteins. Metabolized in the liver and undergoes first pass metabolism.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 75-150 mg daily in 2 to 3 divided doses
- Children: 1-3 mg of diclofenac/kg body wt. daily in divided doses
- Elderly patients: lowest effective dosage is recommended
- Maximum daily dose
- For external use only
- Depending on the size of area to be treated, 2-4 g of Diclofenac gel should be applied to the skin 3-4 times daily

- Anticoagulants
- Antidiabetic agents

- Methotrexate
- Quinolone antimicrobials
- Other NSAIDs and steroids
Contraindications
- Patients hypersensitive to any ingredient of the products
- Peptic ulcer
- Hypersensitivity to Diclofenac
- Contra-indicated in asthmatic patient in whom attack with asthma, urticaria or acute rhinitis are precipitated by acetylsalicylic acid or by other drugs with prostaglandin synthetase inhibitor
- Gel should not be used under occlusive airtight dressings

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Employed only for compelling reasons during pregnancy
- Lowest effective dose should be used during pregnancy
- Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
- Not recommended during lactation due to insufficient clinical data
- Insignificant quantity detected in breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Close observation in rare instances where peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding occurs
- Avoid contact with eyes or mucus membranes
- Proper hand washing after application
- Not to be taken by mouth
