Dosage & Administration

  • Dose for adults: 75-150 mg daily
  • Dose to be divided in 2 to 3 doses
  • Preferred to be taken after food
  • Dosage reduction for long term use
  • Dosage for children: 1-3 mg/kg body weight daily in divided doses
  • Recommended daily dosage for Diclofenac Dispersible Tablet: 2-3 tablets
  • Maximum daily dose for Diclofenac Dispersible Tablet: 150 mg
  • Recommended to be taken before meals
  • Dosage of Diclofenac TR Capsule: One capsule daily
  • Preferred to be taken after meals

Interaction

  • Potential drug interactions with Lithium and digoxin
  • Potential increased risk of haemorrhage with anticoagulants
  • Clinically insignificant influence on antidiabetic agents
  • Potential nephrotoxicity with cyclosporin
  • Potential serious toxicity with methotrexate
  • Potential convulsions with quinolone antimicrobials
  • Increased frequency of unwanted effects with co-administration of other NSAIDs and steroids

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any ingredient
  • Contraindicated in patients with peptic ulcer
  • Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Diclofenac or other non-steroid anti-inflammatory agents
  • Contraindicated in asthmatic patients with precipitated attacks

Side Effects

  • Mild, rare and transient adverse effects
  • Possible complaints of epigastric pain, eructation, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, and headache
  • Possible peripheral edema and skin reactions such as rash and eczema
  • Potential local irritation and reddening of the skin with Gel application

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Use during pregnancy only for compelling reasons
  • Lowest effective dose recommended during pregnancy
  • Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
  • Not recommended during breastfeeding
  • Insignificant quantity may be detected in breast milk with no expected undesirable effects on the infant

Precautions & Warnings

  • Close observation in instances of peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Close observation in advanced age patients
  • Avoid contact with eyes or mucus membranes with Gel application
  • Proper hand washing after application
