Indications
- Pre- and post-operative cover (e.g., for cataract surgery)
- Non-infected chronic conjunctivitis
- Non-infected post-traumatic conditions of the cornea and conjunctiva
Pharmacology
Blocks cyclo-oxygenase action, which is involved in the production of prostaglandins causing pain, swelling, and inflammation
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac up to 5 times pre-operatively
- Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac post-operatively at specified intervals
- Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac 4-5 times daily for inflammatory conditions
Interaction
No reported drug interaction. 5 minutes interval required when using another ophthalmic solution (e.g., steroid)
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any components. Contraindicated in patients with asthma, urticaria, or acute rhinitis following application of certain inhibitors
Side Effects
- Mild to moderate transient burning sensation in 5-15% patients
- Less common side-effects: sensitivity to light, bad taste, feeling of pressure, allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
Safety not established in pregnancy and lactation. Not recommended unless potential benefit outweighs possible risk
Precautions & Warnings
May mask signs of infection. Physicians should monitor for developments of infections. Periodic eye examinations recommended during prolonged use. Contact lenses should not be worn during treatment
