Indications
- Pre- and post-operative cover (e.g., for cataract surgery)
- Non-infected chronic conjunctivitis
- Keratoconjunctivitis
- Non-infected post-traumatic conditions of the cornea and conjunctiva
Pharmacology
Works by blocking the action of cyclo-oxygenase which is involved in the production of various chemicals in the body
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac up to 5 times over the 3 hours preceding surgery
- Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac after 15, 30 & 45 minutes following surgery; then 3-5 times daily for as long as required
- Instill 1 drop in the conjunctival sac 4-5 times daily depending upon the severity of the diseases
Interaction
No drug interaction reported. 5 minutes interval when another ophthalmic solution (e.g., steroid) is given.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of the components
- Contraindicated in patients with attacks of asthma, urticaria or acute rhinitis following application of acetyl salicylic acid or other cyclo-oxygenase inhibitors
Side Effects
- Mild to moderate burning sensation in 5-15% patients which is transient
- Sensitivity to light
- Bad taste
- Feeling of pressure
- Allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
Safety not established. Use not recommended unless potential benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the child
Precautions & Warnings
- May mask the signs of infection
- Periodic examinations of the eye recommended during prolonged use
- Contact lenses should not be worn during treatment
