Indications
- Symptomatic relief of Osteoarthritis (OA)
- Symptomatic relief of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
- Symptomatic relief of Ankylosing spondylitis
- Symptomatic relief of acute gouty arthritis pain and signs of inflammation
- Short-term treatment of moderate pain associated with dental surgery
Pharmacology
- Potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor
- Inhibition of prostaglandin-mediated pain, inflammation, and fever
- Selective inhibition of COX-2 within the clinical dose range
- Decreases clinical signs and symptoms with decreased potential for GI toxicity and effects on platelet aggregation
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose for Osteoarthritis: 30 mg once daily, can be increased to 60 mg if needed
- Recommended dose for Rheumatoid arthritis: 90 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for Ankylosing spondylitis: 90 mg once daily
- Recommended dose for Acute gouty arthritis: 120 mg once daily for 8 days
- Recommended dose for Postoperative dental surgery pain: 90 mg once daily, maximum of 3 days
- Shortest duration possible and lowest effective daily dose should be used
- Patient's need for symptomatic relief and response to therapy should be re-evaluated periodically
Interaction
- Interaction with oral anticoagulants leading to an increase in prothrombin time
- NSAIDs may reduce the effect of diuretics and other antihypertensive drugs
- Can be used concomitantly with low-dose acetylsalicylic acid
- Coadministration with ciclosporin or tacrolimus may increase the nephrotoxic effect
- Decreases lithium renal excretion and increases lithium plasma levels
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or active gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding
- History of bronchospasm, acute rhinitis, nasal polyps, or allergic-type reactions after taking NSAIDs
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Severe hepatic dysfunction
- Estimated renal creatinine clearance <30 ml/min
- Children and adolescents under 16 years of age
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Congestive heart failure, hypertension, established ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and/or cerebrovascular disease

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended in women attempting to conceive
- Excreted in the milk of lactating rats
- Women using the product must not breastfeed
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution with elderly, patients using other NSAIDs, or with prior history of gastrointestinal disease
- Careful consideration for patients with significant risk factors for cardiovascular events
- Monitoring of renal function in patients with risk of impaired renal function
- Exercise caution in patients with history of cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, hypertension, and pre-existing edema
- Monitoring advised for patients with symptoms and/or signs suggesting liver dysfunction
- Discontinue at the first appearance of hypersensitivity signs, skin rash, or mucosal lesions
- May mask fever and other signs of inflammation
- Exercise caution when co-administering with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants
Overdose Effects
- Single doses up to 500 mg and multiple doses up to 150 mg/day did not result in significant toxicity
- Usual supportive measures recommended in the event of overdose
