Description
- Aroxia is indicated for symptomatic relief of Osteoarthritis (OA), Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), Ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, and moderate pain associated with dental surgery.
- Etoricoxib is a potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor.
- Adult and adolescent over 16 years can take Aroxia for specific conditions at recommended doses.
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended doses for various conditions such as Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, and postoperative dental surgery pain.
- Short-term treatment with a maximum duration for postoperative dental surgery pain.
Indications
- Indicated for symptomatic relief of Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, and moderate pain associated with dental surgery.
Pharmacology
- Etoricoxib is a COX-2 specific inhibitor responsible for the relief of pain, inflammation, and fever associated with various conditions.
Interaction
- Interactions with medicine such as oral anticoagulants, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, Angiotensin II Antagonists, Acetylsalicylic Acid, Ciclosporin and tacrolimus, and Lithium.
- Aroxia can be taken without regards to meals.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients, active peptic ulceration or Gl bleeding, bronchospasm, nasal polyps, allergic-type reactions after taking acetylsalicylic acid or NSAIDs, pregnancy and lactation, severe hepatic dysfunction, estimated renal creatinine clearance, children and adolescents under 16 years of age, inflammatory bowel disease, congestive heart failure, hypertension, ischaemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and/or cerebrovascular disease.
Side Effects
- Palpitation, fatigue, influenza-like symptoms, ecchymosis, dry mouth, taste disturbance, mouth ulcer, appetite and weight change, atrial fibrillation, transient ischaemic attack, chest pain, flushing, cough, dyspnoea, epistaxis, anxiety, mental acuity impaired, paraesthesia, electrolyte disturbance, myalgia, arthralgia, confusion, hallucinations.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- The use of Etoricoxib is not recommended in women attempting to conceive, not known excretion in human milk, excreted in the milk of lactating rats. Women using Etoricoxib must not breastfeed.
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution advised with treatment of patients at risk of developing a gastrointestinal complication with NSAIDs, patients with significant risk factors for cardiovascular events, administration may cause a reduction in prostaglandin formation and impair renal function, caution in patients with a history of cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, hypertension, liver dysfunction, skin rash and hypersensitivity, may mask fever and other signs of inflammation, caution when co-administering with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants.
Overdose Effects
- Single doses up to 500 mg and multiple doses up to 150 mg/day for 21 days did not result in significant toxicity.
