Indications
- Osteoarthritis (OA)

- Acute gouty arthritis
- Moderate pain associated with dental surgery
Pharmacology
- Potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor
- Inhibition of COX-2 decreases signs and symptoms of pain and inflammation with decreased potential for Gl toxicity and effects on platelet aggregation
Dosage & Administration
- 30 mg once daily for Osteoarthritis
- 90 mg once daily for Rheumatoid arthritis and Ankylosing spondylitis
- 120 mg once daily for Acute gouty arthritis
- Short-term treatment of 90 mg once daily for dental surgery pain, limited to a maximum of 3 days
Interaction
- Increased prothrombin time when co-administered with oral anticoagulants
- May reduce the effect of diuretics and other antihypertensive drugs when co-administered
- Can be used concomitantly with low-dose acetylsalicylic acid for cardiovascular prophylaxis
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or active Gl bleeding
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Severe hepatic dysfunction
- Estimated renal creatinine clearance <30 ml/min
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Congestive heart failure, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended for women attempting to conceive
- Not recommended for breastfeeding mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution advised for patients at risk of developing gastrointestinal complications with NSAIDs
- Patients with significant risk factors for cardiovascular events should be treated with caution
- May cause reduction in prostaglandin formation and impair renal function
- Caution in patients with history of cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, or hypertension
- Monitoring of renal and hepatic functions is recommended
Overdose Effects
- No significant toxicity reported up to 150 mg/day for 21 days
- Supportive measures should be employed in case of overdose
