Indications

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Ankylosing spondylitis

  • Short-term treatment of moderate pain associated with dental surgery

Pharmacology

  • Potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor
  • Inhibition of COX-2 decreases clinical signs and symptoms with decreased potential for gastrointestinal toxicity and effects on platelet aggregation
  • Selective inhibition of COX-2 by etoricoxib decreases pain, inflammation, and fever

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended doses for different conditions
  • Possible need for increased dose in some patients for insufficient relief from symptoms
  • Consideration of cardiovascular risks and lowest effective daily dose

Interaction

  • Interaction with oral anticoagulants, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II antagonists, acetylsalicylic acid, ciclosporin, tacrolimus, and lithium

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to active substance or excipients
  • Active peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution with elderly and patients with gastrointestinal disease
  • Caution with patients at significant risk of cardiovascular events
  • Potential impairment of renal function
  • Caution with patients with history of cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, or hypertension
  • Monitoring of liver function and discontinuation if signs of hepatic insufficiency occur
  • Discontinuation at the first appearance of skin rash or any sign of hypersensitivity
  • Potential masking of fever and other signs of inflammation
  • Caution when co-administering with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants

Overdose Effects

  • No significant toxicity observed with single or multiple doses up to 150 mg/day
  • Employment of usual supportive measures in the event of overdose
