Indications
- Symptomatic relief of Osteoarthritis (OA)
- Symptomatic relief of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
- Symptomatic relief of Acute gouty arthritis
- Short-term treatment of moderate pain associated with dental surgery
Pharmacology
- Potent, orally active cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) specific inhibitor
- Decreases clinical signs and symptoms with decreased potential for GI toxicity and effects on platelet aggregation
- Dose-dependent inhibition of COX-2 without inhibition of COX-1 at doses up to 150 mg daily
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended doses for Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Acute gouty arthritis, and Postoperative dental surgery pain
- Shortest duration possible and the lowest effective daily dose should be used
- Re-evaluate patient's need for symptomatic relief and response to therapy periodically
Interaction
- Interaction with Oral anticoagulants
- Interaction with Diuretics, ACE inhibitors and Angiotensin II Antagonists
- Interaction with Acetylsalicylic Acid
- Interaction with Ciclosporin and tacrolimus
- Interaction with Lithium
- Take without regards to meals
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients
- Active peptic ulceration or active gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding
- Patients who have experienced bronchospasm, acute rhinitis, nasal polyps, angioneurotic oedema, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking acetylsalicylic acid or NSAIDs including COX-2 inhibitors

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended in women attempting to conceive
- Not known whether excreted in human milk
- Excreted in the milk of lactating rats
- Women who use it must not breastfeed
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution with treatment of patients most at risk of developing a gastrointestinal complication with NSAIDs
- Treatment of patients with significant risk factors for cardiovascular events
- Potential impairment of renal function
- Caution in patients with a history of cardiac failure, left ventricular dysfunction, or hypertension
- Monitoring of liver function
- Discontinue at the first appearance of skin rash or any other sign of hypersensitivity
- May mask fever and other signs of inflammation
- Caution when co-administering with warfarin or other oral anticoagulants
Overdose Effects
- No significant toxicity observed with overdoses
- Usual supportive measures to be employed
